Cheongju is not particularly picturesque, like other capital cities, but it is the largest city in South Korea's North Chungcheong Province. The oldest movable metal type print book, Jikji, was created in this city. You will be disappointed if you come here hoping to see the UNESCO-recognized artefact (the book), as it is currently in France. The city, however, is incredibly proud of its past and declared 2011 to be a Jikji celebration year. You can visit the Cheongju National Museum, Heungdeok Temple Site, Yongdusaji Cheoldanggan, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, etc. if you enjoy exploring cultural attractions.
